    Secular thoughts on recent events

Im interested in the role of police and politicians in Irelands most recent scandal . The church has a lot to answer for , but that is for other threads . My question is 'what were the authorities doing while all this abuse was going on ' ? I would actually like to keep the church out of this thread/discussion .

    The cover-up part II.

The Archbishop of Dublin was all over the media today whilst other organisations have conveniently kept their heads well below the parapet. The irony is that the Church not only the defender of the Faith, but of secularism too.

There's also a question about psychologists who provided reports that were used in sentencing.

I don't know what discussion can be had on this by excluding the Church beyond saying that the politicians & the Gardai should do the damn job they were supposed to be doing instead of making themselves the downtown branches of the racket that cannot be discussed under such parameters

The Gardaí and the politicians were being good Irish catholics first and human beings second. If the likes of Michael Woods could kowtow in the way that he did just before leaving office then it is no surprise that the church's activities at the time were beyond reproach. This is a lesson that is coming out of this quite strongly, nobody should be beyond the law, not even bankers.

My contention would be that the 'gards' and politicians were as complicit as the priests .Im not accusing them of negligence , I am accusing them of conspiracy . There are threads discussing priests 'deviancy' , why are there no threads discussing anyone elses 'perversions' ?

What were the authorities doing? They were being good catholics and bending to the will of the church. It is impossible to have this conversation without devoting a sizible portion of it to the church. It's like trying to dicuss Germany in the 30's and 40's without mentioning the Nazis.
Every single person, whether a priest, bishop, teacher, garda, TD, or minister, who was complicit in this cover up should be in prison.

Yes, a very good study in collective brainwashing I'd say. Its amazing how the human brain is so open to suggestion and that we laugh at sheep is somewhat ironic.

If you are discussing a murder then conspiritors to the murderer can surely be brought up in the same murder thread. No?
