I thought I'd alert any journalists that International Men's Day (Nov 19) is fast approaching.

Also, equality bodies, you will be expected to ensure there is equal media exposure to the day as International Women's Day. And/or investigate what could be done to bring about equality in this area

I'm not sure what has happened in the past in Ireland. Equality bodies could also arrange events. And/or check that similar amounts of statutory money is spent on the day as International Women's Day.

Kevin Myers wondered aloud last week whether State-funded bodies like the National Women's Council might be discriminating in their employment practices (I'm not sure whether he has facts or is just speculating):

So change the law about sex discrimination, give it more teeth, enforce it more vigorously with watchdog officials, by all means -- and what then will the law, and the Supreme Court's interpretations thereof, make of the employment policies of the National Women's Council?
