Well, I can't edit the title or the post so please excuse the mistake in the thread title. Is it normaly possible to edit thread titles?

    Scandalous.

As they say, the best Democracy money can buy.

I wonder in which country (s) are Abdullah Abdullah's new bank accounts.

This is obviously farcical, but let's not make the mistake of hero worshiping Abdullah, who started his 'career' as a member of the bloodthirsty Northern Alliance. Also, it's at least possible that he chose to withdraw because it seemed likely he would not win the election. Much better to paint himself as a hero for democracy than as a failed candidate.

The illusion of choice perhaps, but why the farcical election? I'm sure both canditates were equally "acceptable" to the US, so why attract attention to the elections? Perhpas infighting for head puppet?

Probably. After all, didn't Abdullah serve as "Foreign Minister" under Karzai a few years ago? I don't think the US or NATO engineered the vote rigging, because as you say both men would have been happy to do their bidding. I think it's just one more example of how NATO really are onlookers, rather than actors, in the Afghan debacle.

It was them of the Taliban. Could be that he thought he was going to lose but all the same it does make the thing a grand farce.

Good. About Karzai. At least everyone knows the process has no credibility and there are no illusions.
