Israel refuses to let French Foreign Minister visit Gaza

Israel refuses to let French FM visit Gaza - Haaretz - Israel News
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not grant French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner permission to visit the Gaza Strip, an Israeli official said on Tuesday.

Kouchner had requested to travel to the coastal territory during his upcoming visit to Israel and the West Bank.

According to the official, Netanyahu sent a message to the French minister saying he could not accede to his request as Hamas would likely take advantage of the visit to create a media frenzy and parade the damages caused by Israel during the Gaza war earlier this year.
Kouchner was supposed to, among other things, inaugerate the reconstruction of the Al-Qods hospital. The project, financed by France and Qatar, had been agreed to by Israel and Kouchner had announced his travel plans in llate September. Something seems to have changed since then. Perhaps France's abstension on the Goldstone report.

Why are people so obsessed with Israel? they ignore the many war torn parts of the world but are obsessed by Israel.

Do they think a few lefties from an insignificant country will have an impact?

Can you not start threads then? No one is stopping you from starting a thread on Darfur or anywhere else.

To which country are you referring and who are "they"?

I thought the Jewish Zionists had pulled out of Gaza, why would the French minister need to seek permission from Nazi Bini?

It's because Israel is a Western democracy that we might be able to do something about, whereas there seems to be nothing we can do for "war torn parts of the world", short of say a military intervention in the Congo.

I suppose they still see it as theirs. I hadn't thought about it but it's a good question.

Anybody know why Kouchner needs the permission of Israel to go to Gaza?

That's why, nothing to do with security. And why would th Palestinians attack him. France didn't (directly) blow up Gaza.

If Palestinians are to be considered "Islamofascist" then it follows that Israelis are "Zionazis". How far that will advance the debate I couldn't say.

Why should the Israelis facilitate a bit of exhibitionism on behalf of Hamas and the French foreign ministry?
