RTe 6.1 News Wednesday Jan 31st

There was something about the news last night that I thought was interesting. (a) it was very newsy, there were 4/5 stories that could easily been the lead story on another day (b) it was strangely devoid of politicos. Well, we did get Dermot Aherntelling us about CRH's ongoing work in Israel, and Noonan talking once more about government incompetence.

Quinn to take over BUPA - no one from the the department of health to comment on it.

Ahern on a quick trip to the Middle East - apparently he told the (very bossy in my view 'no') Israeli defense minister about EU concerns about the wall.

ICU beds in St. James full - no one from department of health on to make any comment.

PAC report into MediaLabEurope and the waste of €35million - Noonan but again no one from the government to comment.

Tipperary man convicted of raping 75-year-old two days after being released on bail while appealing a conviction - no one from anywhere commenting. I would have expected someone from FG would be chomping at the bit to get on at least about tagging of those on bail who are reoffend risks.

200 jobs to go in Limerick - no one comments

CAO website problems - no one from department of education on to comment.

Was it because the Dail was just back that there was no politico's available or did RTE not bother?
Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote.

Should the cao spend money so that everyone can log on at the same time for a couple of days a year or should people expect delays if they leave it till the last minute. ************************em for leaving it so late the whining gits.
People should just get on with it and keep their mewling to themselves over trivia like this

surely the dealine is so early in the year because the CAO office (i think it's in galway) has to go through all hte application forms and sort them out, entering things into their computer system (i presume they don't work out who gets which preference by hand)

and so if this is done automatically by the electronic application form that would save them much time and effort...

but if you move the deadlion people will just leave the decision to later in the year... and there will still be a rush coming close to the deadline...

you could stagger the deadline, making things far more complicated, and annoying for people, or you could indeed shell out the moeny to serve the wbesite properly during this rush period.

just combine the resources of several government departments, and allocate more to the CAO when it is needed.
