Not sure exactly. Reported by someone else who hasn't got enough posts to start a thread on it.

It's somewhere of the most current Fahey thread.

Would post a link, but I'm off to me bed.

The payment of 1.5 million to the underbidders for the National Aquatic Centre in settlement of their court action claiming award of the contract was flawed ----- the payment of 3.6 million by the National Roads Authority to SIAC when they sought redress following the award of a road buildindg contract to Pat Mulcairs company--Mulcair was also involved in the aquatic project. Mary Harney and her entourage staying in a 5 Star hotel in Auckland when there are 41 4 Star hotels there

If your crowd had not tried with bomb bullet and arson to destroy the State before they found constitionality in 1926 we probably all would have had arses in our trousers 80 years ago

I was thinking about this recently and my search for Irish Scandals brought me to this page. My interest is not necessarily the scandal itself but the result of the scandal, ie what did we learn and how can we avoid it again. Common sense dictates to us "lay" people that if we make a (costly) mistake we learn not to make it again so surely the same logic applies to us as a nation and to our government. When bad things happen the lessons learnt are the silver lining as we now know something we didn't know before and we progress. To use an analogy, a man leaves oven on while he goes to shops, when he returns his house is burnt down but no-one is injured. Yes its terrible, he has no house etc etc but he now knows leaving the oven on unattended is dangerous so he wont do it again and possibly kill his family. This is progress and is good thing. What I see in Irish life is scandal after scandal but no progress, the same things happen again and again and peoples lives are being destroyed because of this. No one is accoutable. Why do CEO's of state agencies get bonus's and pensions for life for doing a job badly. If I do my job extra well I get a bonus, if I don't do it extra well I don't get a bonus, if I dont do it at all I get fired. Its a simple and fair contract that should apply to all people in all jobs. Yet we have a defense minister who makes a false affidavit, resigns , and in due course will probably be voted back in to government by next year. Wrong wrong wrong. He should never be allowed in to Irish politics again and the same for any other polictician found of wrong-doings and you can include Jim Mc Daid, Trevor Sargeant, Michael Lowry, Willie O Dea, Beverley Cooper-Flynn and all the rest. These people are free to pursue careers elsewhere but should never be given the chance to represent the peoples of Ireland again. The people that make it into polictical power shoud be our brightest and most ethical sons and daughters. Not crooks, not capitalists, not cronies, not shams, not liars, not blackguards. If the pisstakers like Lowry et al were never allowed back in this would clean up the policticians we have, act as disincentive to current policticians, and show future policticians that that behaviour will not be tolerated.
Sorry for the rant there lads and ladies, going back to the original point of the thread here is my scandals for consideration on the list. Sorry if some have already been mentioned.

Loner, Roadbridge were also awarded the contract for the Corrib Gas Terminal - just in case you're keeping tabs on them.

    Insert facepalm emoticon.

Or maybe, even without those who went on to found FF, the Civil War would have happened anyway given the huge numbers who saw the Treaty as a complete and utter sell out?

Or maybe we'd have fantastic trousers with lovely pockets, like these...
