FG bill to end political cronyism in appointments to state boards

Fine Gael is due to table a private members' bill in the Dail this evening aimed at eliminating political cronyism in appointments to state boards.
The party says all appointees to such boards should be vetted by all-party Oireachtas committees to ensure they are earning the position on merit.
At the moment, jobs on state boards are often given to supporters of the government parties as rewards for their loyalty.
Under Fine Gael's plan, the qualifications of prospective candidates would have to be published and all appointees would receive a letter detailing their responsibilities.

FG bill aims to reform appointments to state boards - Politics, National News - Independent.ie

All political parties have been guilty of cronyism over the years. Therefore, the FG bill is a welcome opportunity to end it for once and all. In addition, I am pleased to see that the Oireachtas will be the vehicle for vetting potential appointees rather than some newly founded quango. Represenative democracy in action.

Would it end cronyism or just widen it out so that the spoils would be divided up between government and opposition? So some appointees would be known as the FF man and others as the Labour woman?
Should appointment to state boards be exclusively down to politicians any way?

This is good stuff and to be welcomed. All to often, important posistions have gone to Friends or people to whom a favour is owed. Another sad inditement on our Political system that we have are still waiting for something as simple as important as ensuring that those sitting on State Boards actually know what they are doing.

    So everybody knows??

If it's true and you can prove it, you can't be sued.

If you can't proveit, well we'll assume you are full of it.

And no, we don't know who you mean.

But I suppose I'm just a dullard, finding stuff like that interesting

PM me the name. That way it won't get Dave sued.
