    Cabinet to discuss same-sex marriages

The Cabinet is due to discuss the findings of a report into gay marriage and civil partnerships when it meets at Government buildings this morning.

The report was commissioned by Minister for Justice Michael McDowell to recommend ways to create greater equality for co-habiting and same-sex couples in areas such as tax, inheritance and social welfare.

The Cabinet has already discussed some of the recommendations and is due to hold further talks on the matter today. - BreakingNews.ie

ff ministers balked at the idea of lowering the age of consent from 17 to 16- a paltry move but they were still terrified of upsetting their conservative members and voters

so what do you think the odds are that they will let gays get married?? or even some kind of limited tax rights? no chance. mcdowell has already indicated that he will postpone all of this conveniently until after the next election

wha a pathetic government. they promise action refer it to some subcommittee then postpone action for a long time

I am quite happy to extend property and inheritance rights to non-married couples, whether they are sexually involved or not.

However, I am opposed to civil union ceremonies other than marriage.

The constitution compels the government to protect marriage and sponsoring homosexual circuses on State property is not compatible with this.

Because this conversation couldn't possibly move forward without someone mentioning "adoption", could it? Stop being so disingenuous. Marriage = marriage - You know that! You just had to roll out the gay people marrying = gay adoption = gay people bringing up kids = children should have a father and mother argument... f****** YAWN!

After years of discussing this, I still havn't seen Civil Unions and Marraige, the diffrence, clearly defined, so I don't get the people who say they are pro-civil union and against marraige.
