    Limerick, Moyross, Southill, etc.

Am I being naive when I say that I think the solution to the mayhem there is fairly straightforward : the entire area isn't that big. Why can't the Gardaí ,assisted by the army, simply flood the area for a prolonged period.I have no doubt that 95% of the people in the area are decent , law-abiding citizens.They. I am sure, would be prepared to put up with the inconvenience of constant check-points, searches of both premises and individuals, close attention to the main players who seem to be known to the Gardaí. It's a bit of a joke when ,last night, Gardaí are summoned to the area following incidents. They should be there at all times. I wonder if they would be up against much when it comes to the intelligence of those involved. Certainly, looking at tv coverage of court appearances, they look like people who would find reading the Star or Sun as an intellectual challenge. If that's so, they would probably be outfoxed by a sustained Garda/army drive. The use of informers would probably put the tin hat on it.The decent people of the area deserve no less.

They aren't dealing with criminal masterminds here. What they are dealing with is relatively unsophisticated criminals, who compensate for this by their viciousness. Lets not forget, the Gardai have had had excellent success against Limerick criminals. Why they just dont go to the FBI, buy a few bugs and get training in how to use them is beyond me.

if they locked these scumbags up for the crimes that they committed when they were 17 and 18 yrs old, maybe they wouldn't be laughing at the justice system in this country. (they probably had free legal aid as well thrown in for good measure)
Opening community centres in Moyross wont stop these scumbags. after all 20 years ago everything was blamed on unemployment, what do we balme it on these days???
some people are plain nasty and bad need to be treated accordingly. we need to get real in this country. More prison spaces, longer sentences, no sky sports in prison, no weightlifting or pool tables, no more of the softly-softly approach. Free legal aid must also be limited. If they had to fork out for barristers they might think twice, but when joe taxpayer is paying the bill they couldnt give a xxxx. They should be evicted from their council houses. Get real and get tough!

Because there isn't the political will to tackle it. The situation has been left get totally out of control in all the Local authority estates here in Limerick. With the injuries of the children it has blown up in their faces. Drug dealing especially Heroin are the root cause of 95% of the crime here in Limerick and untill we seriously tackle this we are wasting our time. Also a police force which is accountable would have helped. Gardai have basically opted out of City estates for years and are afraid of the gangs here. Roxboro garda station is about 200 yards from O'Malley Park, yet last week After the 5 year old boy was shot, was the first time I saw foot patrols there. Whilst it could be argued that it is not safe for foot patrols it is the Garda who left the situation degenerate to this level. Even in Moyross where the situation is as bad as ever the initial garda response after the attacks on the Murry children has been scaled back. ie the TV/press are gone

Ive also heard that a lot of these Crime families have immunity from Gardai attention because they are past informers who have got out of control and feel they can do what they wan't.

Exactly right. They are the "untouchables". Funny how all the arrests of anyone significant are made by the Dublin based ERU? And every dog on the street can tell you who did what! And as anyone knows you are not dealing with super criminal minds here!

The Gardai have priorities you know. Looking after Shell is far more important than patrolling the streets of Limerick or anywhere else in fact.

Exactly. And whilst don't get me wrong every gun taken off the street and drug seizure is welcome funny how in Moyross one gang seems to be having all the damage done to them by the Gardai whilst the other gang (those who are doing most of the shooting) seem to be largely unscathed.

    Moyross southhill

Most young criminals arrested by the Gardai are left off with a slap on the wrist by the courts..The system has convinced them by its inability to pass judgement, that they are untouchable and can do as they please..
