    The capacity to be shocked

In a weird way, it's a tribute to almost ten years of incompetence, arrogance, misrule and right-wing fanaticism that this Government still has the power to shock.

According to a report in today's Irish Times, Dempsey, Minster for Mad Notions, is considering privatisting Ireland's inland waterways, lakes, rivers and canals in the belief that the private sector could run them better.

Considering the amount of our waterways already in private, and indeed foreign aristo hands, it's a quaint notion to give away more of them. It's like a caricature of the forelock tugging Irish peasant that Fianna Fáil is these days.

    A bloody good idea!

I live beside the Royal Canal in Castleknock and since that lad who runs the Twelfth Lock pub got in on the act the walkways beside the canal have improved immensely.

The same thing has occured on the same canal up by Ashtown due to the new developments going up there, Earlswood & Rathdown I think they're called.

    A brute indeed.

Remember this. 800 salmon poisoned on a tributary of the Mourne never to spawn or perpetuate. Public waters public sewer.

The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is.

So, you're saying we wouldn't have fish kills if inland waters were privately maintained? Interesting.

Heres an interesting idea, besides calling people a 'brute' (whatever the hell sort of insult thats supposed to mean? Oooh, your such a brute....that sort of jiggery pokery should be answer with a relevant response - stupidhead....

Anyway, I digress! Why not - and bear with me here - prosecute those who pollute our waterways with either industrial or agricultural effluence or even Joebob soap who dumps an old trolley/car/corpse into it?

Why is privatisation the absolute solution to every problem this government has? Yes it works in some area, not so much in others.
I calling it buck passing and its a typical short term solution to a long term problem and you should also be asking yourselves who is doing the polluting?

It may indeed be a good idea, but I want hard facts to back this up, not just an ingrained ideological belief that a darwinian approach to everything is the was forward.

Why argue with someone such as Cain (aptly named BTW) who has expressed fanatical left-wing desires to see capitalists strangled with the innards of the last nuns and priests?

Indeed, Cain is the victim of a campaign of lies and slander based on a rigged conviction much like many republicans.

And when I quoted an old saying from the Spanish Civil war with, as I pointed out at the time, tongue firmly in cheek, it said nothing about nuns.

I'm pretty okay with nuns as it happens. The quote wans't meant to be taken seriously. I'm open minded about how we kill priests and capitalists. Hanging and entrails don't have to come into it. We could shoot them into the sun for example and I'd be happy enough.

Mmm...ok. No putting them in surface waters, though.
