how do you make that out that doesn't even make sense FFS!

you orginally were claiming that those who shout for there club team shoudn't be shouting against them at international level...why is that there two different jersey's two different club's...you claimed these ppl to be narrowminded...how are you in a position to pass judgement on who ppl support...if you want to suppoet liverpool and england then more power to ya, but don't make it out to be wrong to do other-wise....england as a nation have under-achieved at there national game which is also the biggest sport in the world that's why ppl find it hard to believe why they think they have so much to sing about 43 years later..

What I'm saying is that its only a narrow minded person would spend all season supporting a domestic club only for them to turn on the players of that club when they line out for the national team.

as i said it's two different club's and that banter has been alway's part of every sport...it happen's in GAA when the ozzie rule's come round it happen's in rugby with Munster and leinster meet in the hieniken cup and then line out with each other for ireland....it's a part of sport that make's it what it is, it's narrowminded to think otherwise..

As someone Irish brought up in England, I support Ireland against everyone, but I'll support England against everyone except Ireland. I do find the Man U-shirted supporters (and worse the Chelsea supporters) slagging England a bit amusing in an 'I'll raise my eyebrow and say nothing' kind of way, but I think it's perfectly healthy to not support England if you're Irish, why should you have to? The English generally wish the Irish football team well, I know many who were genuinely quite upset when we were knocked out by the Spanish in 2002. It would be nice if we got to the same stage (i.e. drop the neurosis) but it's some decades off I'd say. As to 1966, it can be a bit much but it's really a sub-conscious admission of resignation, they know they don't win stuff much. We would be very much the same 40 years after winning a World Cup...

If I'm watching Wimbeldon or football, I always watch it on RTE, the commentry on the English Channels is so cringey

    [QUOTE=imported_Déise;1835920]Why do you support Liverpool?

Have you lived there or have some family connection?
I think this is a very funny send up about soccer fans (which of course can be applied to fans of other sports)

I'm born and reared in cork all my life and have no relations in liverpool however i have relations in london. The 2 sports i follow are boxing and soccer. I have been a liverpool fan as long as i remember.

even the most pro unions scotts ( not saying andy murray wears union jack boxers ) despise the england soccer team , seriously , no country and i include ireland dislikes the english soccer team more than the scotts , they hate them

This is not because of some narrow minded nationalism, or bitterness about 1916, but annoyance of the events in 1966.

It is 43 years since they won the World Cup (with home advantage mind you) and they still can't let it go. They are like ageing hippies.

I reckon on British TV they still have clips of the 1966 World Cup at least once a month. English friends of mine mention it upon occasion. This is in contrast with French friends who are more restrained about their victories.

If England were to win another major sporting event I doubt we would ever hear the end of it.

    Just look at this article.

Andy Murray chasing ranking alongside heroes of 1966 - Times Online

Why do they still go on about their 1966 World Cup? Is it a lack of sporting self confidence?

you say you wouldn't support an english soccer team but surely you should have said:

"Why I will never watch English tv or read English newspapers".

Isn't this the English peoples business?
