    Upgrading from Nurse to Doctor

One of my offspring has been musing on this topic lately. I am uninformed and hope some member can throw some light.

I understand that there is a revision to entry to med schools to attract mature graduates or at least diversify out of the 600 point automatons.

Q: He has a Bsc and 1 years ward experience as a general nurse. Early 20's. Is a return to study possible and if yes: where and how?

Many Thanks in advance for the assistance,

    Wig.

Some would call it a downgrade.

My friend went back at age 30 to study Medicine, he is now sitting his finals. He applied to Hull Univeristy in the UK and was accepted.

Here is a good site for information on Medicine.

According to my friend, the 1 years nursing experience is good to have when applying.

    Good luck to the offspring.

Hopefully when he/she has qualified Harney will be gone and we will have a minister for Health who employes medical staff and not managers and spin doctors

    Thanks All.

I did consider using the word 'downgrade,' TBH!

He has been a nurse for the year and seems to be genuinely incredulous at the technical competence and social incompetence of young Medical grads especially. His motivation is that 'I could do that better'!

If you are going to select candidates based on the Leaving Cert memory test what do you expect ?

These are two very different professions, if he is really interested in greater responsibility then maybe he could consider upgrading his nurse education and be a nurse practitioner or another grade of nurse.
