why do loyalists have the best bands?

I witnessed a pretty pathetic republican parade across the border recently, the band was a j.o.k.e. the "uniform" looked like something they hobbled together from pieces of clothing from the local army and navy store, the colour party was laughable, the band were seriously in need of some lessons and the music was pretty woeful. boring and uninspiring. contrast that to every Orange parade or any band parade I've seen over the years and the difference is startling.

maybe it's the reason why republican parades can't even muster 100 people?

I'd prefer to be called masculine than nice.

The Nazis had some pretty good music as well. And not only that, look at the cover girls from the SS magazine Erika and the tits on some of them! When will you see anything like that on page 3 of the Protestant Telegraph? And the lyrics couldn't possibly offend anyone; something about little flowers, fragrant odours, honey and bees, I gather.

There is no tradition of bands and marches within the republican community, thus no great effort is put into them.

There is a tradition of subjugation within unioinsm that was reinforced by quasi paramilitary state forces. The quasi paramilitary play acting carries over into bands.

Unionists have this view of themselves as the most loyal little part of the empire. During the wars this was clearly not the case. Most unionists didn't run off to fight Jerry. in fact O.O. parades during the second world war had to be cancelled through embarrassment of so many able bodied loyalists on parade rather than off fighting for king and country.

Dressing up in military regalia as bandsmen lets them live out their empire fetish, without actually going to places like Afghanistan and Iraq. More to be pitied than anything else.
