Ken Loach on Saturday Night with Miriam

Just saw Ken Loach on Saturday Night with Miriam, he was very good. Really gave the British Empire what for. While I am a fan of Miriam (easily one of the best journalists on RTE), I found her response to him to be slightly nauseating. Along the lines of 'don't you think it is bad that you did this film and we almost had sympathy for the IRA men who murdered the informers'. It's called history Miriam. What did others think?

How surprising ! I was expecting him to say " Listen,Miriam, this is a film, designed to make money and entertain. My next film will be about our boys in WW2,designed to exploit the feelings of the British people towards their army's actions at that historical time.Oh, and by the way, I love your dress !".

Agree with DOD. He was really good. I felt embarassed when she asked some of the stupidest questions. I dont think he was expecting the question about his son that died. I wasnt anyway.

I didn't see that. Was that during the time Keith Barry was there? I had stopped watching by that stage.

It was near the end of her interview with him. He was really taken back. Stupid question to ask anyway.

I concur. The questions are the same as the ones she asks on Prime Time.

    Yeah

Just watched the replay. Loach's humanity was palpable while the conditioned middle class crassness of O' Callaghan as a previous poster said was nauseating.

When Loach pointed out that to tell the story of the French resistance during the Nazi occupation would not be challenged or questioned as a 'partial truth' in response to O' Callaghans probing about his portrayal of the IRA war of independence campaign, it was a slam dunk.

It is revealing that it took an English man to deal with our War of Independence and Civil War in 'The Wind That Shakes The Barley' and also the shoot to kill campaign in 'Hidden Agenda'. Miriam O Callaghan just reminded us about the damage done by Section 31 censorship and the abandonment of republicanism by the 26 county establishment and their media.

Finally, can a moderator move this thread over to the Chat Forum as that is where it belongs to avail of more contributors.

i find it impossible to believe that any educated person would spend time watching that complete and total dross. this show was crap last summer and so it will be again this time.

the problem with miriam o callaghan is that she's just not credible as a smiley-faced chat show host. on this show and on the "test the nation" thing recently her smile was so forced that it looked as if her mouth ws being kept open with hooks. oh and she's a crap interviewer

The reason a dip************************ like Miriam OCallaghan is chosen in the first place to present Irish television is because she comfortably represents the establishments view on these issues . Her job isnt to represent the views of the Irish people , merely to claim to . Yet she clearly doesnt .

Her opinion is clearly out of step with the vast majority of this island as regards the Tan War and this film . Yet she and many like her run and present the countrys media , acting as opinion formers and whinging about the fact Black and Tans were shot . This embarrassing interview merely illustrates the unhealthy state of Irish media and current affairs . And with that unhealthiness comes the extremely unhealthy state of Irish democracy and politics . We deserve better than this substandard toecurling crap . Irish citizens pay her and her employers wages . Irish citizens pay the wages of the governemnt which employs these nauseating wasters .
What do people think will be needed to change this and get Ireland to the stage were an interview with a Palme d'Or winner can be conducted in a mature manner without this type of bull************************ ? That interview was completely unacceptable . It was embarrassing and substandard yet she was paid a forune for doing it . I believe we as a people deserve a great deal better than this emabarassing tripe on an issue which deals with not only our history but our present . AS a palme D'Or winning film it is a worldwide issue yet this daft bint embarrased us as a nation in her handling of the subject due to her pathetic political agenda that should not have been an issue . The woman is not paid to broadcast her pro- British prejudices , shes paid to keep us informed and entertained . She did neither yet was handed a wad of Irish tax payers money . Unacceptable .

Has anyone complained to RTE for example ? Might that not be an idea ? Because this is just an example of the type of nonsense that has been completely unacceptable for a very long time yet our people are continually subjected to it . As an Irish person I find her attitude cringeworthy in the extreme . Reporters of her ilk that are unable to handle these type of issues in a mature and adult manner are simply not up to the job . Therefore people like her should simply not be employed to do the job . As both the consumers of this rubbish and the people who pay her to present it Irish people should get in touch with her employers and let their feelings be known . And the same goes for the rest of her crass ilk everytime they attempt to denigrate our people and their popular struggle and their democratically expressed attempts to become Irish citizens as opposed to British subjects . They denigrate our people on television , radio and in print for struggling for their freedom . These bob************************es condemn them from the rooftops and get paid a forune for it . Our struggle as a nation for basic dignity and sovereignty is not and never was anything to be ashamed of but the likes of this dumbassed , square jawed , googly eyed mediocre blonde and other wasters like her are clearly of the opinion it was wrong and should never have been undertook in the firstplace .

We deserve much better as a society than this puerile nonsense . These oxygen thieves should not be draining our economy . Irish citizens should not be paying them for the priviliege of insulting us as a nation . Its unacceptable , Id urge people to contact her employers and tell them so .
