I liked Michael Collins except for:

A: Brendan Gleeson should have played Collins like in The Treaty. I thought he looked very like Collins in it. He would need to trim a bit though. Or else someone with a closer likeness to Collins than Neeson. One of the lads in the pub in Cork later on in the movie looked remarkably like Collins "so you've come to sell us that treaty?".

B: Excessive swearing. Yes I know most of us do it but it went a bit overboard.

C: No depiction of the treaty negotiations unlike "The Treaty".

D: No specific mention of the 1918 election. Those lacking in knowledge of the period could be forgiven for thinking that SF had no mandate for the War of Independence.

Hope this one is better. There should be context, sufficient background, and not too much license with the facts. I hope the Irregulars won't be glorified in "The Wind that shook the barley".

    Yes 'The Treaty' was excellent!

Brendan Gleeson is a mighty fine actor who played Mick to a T.

Here's a site with some pics of the film - gives some idea what it will be like.

Judging from "Land and Freedom" Ken loach's excellent film set in the Spanish Civil war, there will be no glorification of either side. They are likely to be shown to be humans both fighting for a republic but taking different paths, which is similar to the main message of Land and Freedom. We have more to unite us than seperate us and the like.
Although it's out of the question I certainly hope he wouldnt glorify the free state army.

Oh come on! Your name is Marx. I mean I respect the fact you would cite Marx and be a member of the Labour party, that takes a certain amount of pigheadedness and irrationality which I cant help like, but really. Sorry just one of my pet peeves.

Yep, fantastic analysis Merle, so glad there are people who read posts instead of just looking for a way to attack republican posters.
I assume that was your plan Reggie.
