I already have citizenship because of my grandparents, but I suppose I would be one those 'McDonaldised' individuals you refer to. My Irish is better than most of my Irish expat friends, and my knowledge of Irish history at least equals theirs. I love the culture and the language. It's hard to love a history so painful, but when I read that history, I strongly identify with it. Ireland's a country that's easy to love, and many here in Boston at least have a sincere love and respect for it.

I know many Irish can't understand that, but you have a history that goes back to the ages. That certainly is not the case for the immigrant country of America. Many of us feel culturally orphaned, and sort of adrift. Looking back to the country our people come from provides some relief from that.

I'm sure that sounded pretty cheesy, but it's true.
But the bravest fell, and the requiem bell rang mournfully and clear
for those that died that Eastertide in the springing of the year.

To our Friends, Brothers & Comrades

8 Years ago we lost good men in Washington, New York City and Pennslyvania on 9/11 whom would have like our existing Diaspora contributed massively to Ireland.

    Ever notice...

How people can oppose reforming the generational banner, log on, post comments and/or insults based on assumptions, yet...

They never take up the challenge of explaining for a 6.75% Irish descendent, can become a citizen, but a 100% one cannot?

Or what of the Polish immigrant baby born in Dublin in 2000 before moving back to Poland?
The facts I stated would allow that baby's grandchildren, 0% Irish, to become citizens.

And yet, still, no one seeks to explain the logic of these scenarios.
And it isn't make believe, these scenarios ARE possible AND HAVE or WILL happen.

Hence, the reason the law needs to be reformed.

    I think that's a good point JR!

Another thread is probably going to be created out of this and the topic is worth further discusssion.

When will a new thread begin, and other related questions

Ok, if a new thread for this topic begins, how do we ensure continuity?

Will readers of this thread be able to realize a new one has started?

How long until many of the great points and arguments here are lost for the ages?

What is the rules of decorum/etiquette for the new thread, can or should one re-post previously posted information?

Maybe it's because I am still sort of new here (6 months) and this is the issue most important to me, and I don't want the arguments for it to be diluted from a move, but I'd love to have some of these concerns cleared up if there is to be a new thread.

PS: (I toyed with the idea of whether to post this, or just ask DaBrow for a few days, figure others might have the same concerns, so I opted to post it)

    Has this thread moved?

Seems awfully quiet here, what's going on?

However, this might be a great chance to leave this thread on here.

    New Format Here...

Like the new format here, hope the moving of this thread elsewhere doesn't signal to some a lack of interest.

I'm not sure how last week will actually affect this ambition now JR, it seems now that we have less chance to advocate this than previously thought.
