    As in:
"So long as you are more "irish" than you are of any other ethnicity, you qualify to apply, and PROBABLY will be given citizenship."

Thus, 38.5% Irish (3 great grandparents) would be enough, so long as, the other 5 great grandparents have a 2-2-1 split or less.

But regardless, I think it is common sense that a generational scheme makes little sense.
Right now, someone who is 100% Irish by descent (but last Irish citizen was 3 generations ago) is ineligible,
but someone who is 12.5% Irish (1 grandparent being Irish by right of only 1 of his/her parents being Irish) can qualify.

Where is the sense there? How come no one in government sees this?
Why can't this be changed to a more sensible position in the very near future?
Well, I have said what I think.......... Predominence is very important for Jus Sanguinis applicants to fully integrate and be accepted by the country.

That people with Irish descent over 50% should be eligible for citizenship, although people with 50% on their own should be drawn by chance to qualify and the Scots-Irish should be treated as predominent applicants.

One thing definitely though is that the generation rule should be abolished and permanently, they should as a token of forgiveness reconsider those two argentine Girls applications in 2002........... the girls whom were one generation too late.

Thank God that law was scrapped, it was abused and made us look like a joke.

80% of the electorate made sure that this law was history

We have since incurred Mass-Immigration which is a consequence of this............

I was one of the 20%

Although if you think that "Mass-Immigration" was a consequence of this then surely you must wish you'd voted differently given how against it you seem to be?

Nope, the Jus Soli Law had to be scrapped............ new arrivals were aware of this loop-hole as many flocked to here during that period.

The Mass-Immigration that occured was indirectly related to the Jus-Soli Law abolishment, Dick Roche and others promised that it wouldn't happen if Nice was ratified by the irish.......... he said only a few thousand would arrive.

    How wrong he was...........

Speaking as an Irish-American I think it would be a good idea for the ROI to start testing immigrants (diasporans especially) on Irish culture and history, that way you can weed out the diasporans who actually know and care abour Irish culture and history from plastic paddies.

Also the myth/stereotype that Irish-Americans in general love and have done nothing but fund the provos is a wee bit of a myth:

Irish-American clout that Britain ignores: The British media have misunderstood the Irish lobby in the US, says Leonard Doyle - Opinion - The Independent

clipfile dot org: Irish-Americans provide money, moral support

frontline: the ira & sinn fein: special reports: america and the conflict | PBS

In fact quite a few Irish-Americans have made peaceful positive contributions, such as George Mitchell's significant contribution to the GFA. Of course anti-American bigotry fuels the myth, the people whining about 'plastic paddies funding the IRA' never mention UK, free state or Libyan support. Also it's worth pointing out that a lot of the IRA arms and so on came from the mafia and the Irish mob and that quite a few of the gun runners were Irish immigrants (ie Pat Nee).

Sheila and Eileen Geoghegan were the girls turned down in 2002.................

    http://www.davidmcwilliams.ie/2007/1...ras-soft-power

Because of the stupid Gombeen laws we have currently and these girls are predominently Irish: The very ideal people this policy suggestion is demanding.

Turned down because they were one generation too late........... The Girls from Duggan, a town in Argentina 60 miles northwest of Buenos Aires and a place that resembles the people of WestMeath.

I'm sure they were stunning aswell, I've never met any Argentine Girls that are anything but beautiful........... another reason why it made no sense.

We should process these girls first as a token of apology to become Ancestral Return citizens................

Well what do you expect? Cowen and co. are more interested in cheap laborers from Nigeria or Poland than people who actually give a f*ck about Irish culture.

I think that's going to change when the Second NO Vote for Lisbon happens on October 2nd.

I'm very sure that the poll results we've seen are accurate, plus aswell many people in Ireland don't like the direction the EU is going........

Nothing has changed in the treaty

I share that hope (not that I plan on moving to the ROI but it would be nice to have the option).
