That sounds credible. I'd say the land is owned by a trust, and the trustees have taken their interpretation of "community amenity" directly from GAA HQ. I'm not a lawyer, but I seriously hope that the soccer club has gotten legal advice on whether they were justified in doing this. I know of other community playing fields that are owned in this way, and there hasn't been problems like this, largely because trustees, have to operate according to the rules of the trust, rather than the GAA's rule book.
It's surprising as well that the soccer club doesn't have some rights, by virtue of occupying the land over a long period of time.
It is ironic though that the GAA, which grew out of the struggle for land in this country, has acted in this way, and rather than addressing the actual rights and wrongs of the question, just hides behind its own rule book. Where have we seen that before?
Have you ever watched any police\detective TV shows, the term "M.O." is often used in them to describe someone who has the same habits as the criminal they are looking for and therefore I would not consider it pompous language.
You are entitled to think that I am arrogant, however you know what they say about opinions, they are like ar$eholes, everybody has got one.

No, I never watch fiction. I disapprove of fiction.

Why are you Free State folk so vulgar? Please, keep it to yourself.
[quote=Glennshane;1567599] Your entire persona is fiction, Dull repetitive unimaginative fiction true, but you obviously get something out of it.
The GAA on this point are being extremely anti community here. I realy cant understand it, most of their young players would enjoy participating in other codes and are probably directly affected by this stupidity. In the long run this sort of thing could do them some lasting damage. The players and supporters here need to wrestle control away from the fools that did this.
Cira/rira Not in my name.

You probably believe that because you have never met an oppressed Ulster Catholic.
"The GAA on this point are being extremely anti community here."
What would be wrong with the GAA being anti-community? The GAA has a duty to promote Gaelic games - nothing else.
"I realy cant understand it, most of their young players would enjoy participating in other codes and are probably directly affected by this stupidity."
Is it stupidy? If the GAA owns the land, it would be very stupid to allow its land to be used to promote rival products.

Now, now, now you are being naughty. Leave that sort of decisison to the members of the GAA.
I hate the GAA, and tbh I was fairly good I probably could have played at senior level.
I will alert the relevant parties in Croke Park and request that some notable refernece be made in the annuals of the history of the GAA about the missed opportunity. The GAA's very own Pele lost before he solo'd a ball.
The GAA's loss is the LOI's gain...some day the gaa will recover after the blow, when I just can't say.
A memorable post indeed. The "cavemans" I hate with no explanation followed by the self praise worthy of any pub stool hero. You're wasted on the barren lonely stands in in Finn Park (is it that?) wet and windy Donegal. Get your boots out, I'd say u'd still get a game for them.
To be fair, if he supports Finn Harps you can see how he'd make a good GAA player.![]()
