Mary Cullen takes Bronze: will Martin Cullen congratulate her?

Mary Cullen from Sligo won Bronze in the 3000m European Indoor championship at Turin today.

Eamonn Sweeney of the Sunday Independent has a telling article on how our most dedicated athletes are funded. This is from what he wrote.

Last year Mary Cullen was awarded €12000. Sweeney describes what she had to achieve to get that sum. She had to run the fastest 3000m of any Irish woman apart from Sonia. She had to win the American Colleges 5000m and take third in their 10000m. She had to qualify for the European indoor 3000m and worlds 5000m.

He compares what she does for and with her money with how Martin Cullen splashes the cash on his own comforts and convenience.

    Will Martin congratulate Mary?

I wouldn't want to be congratulated by a sleaze like Cullen anyway. I'd refuse to shake his hand.

As Minister for lots of things including Sport, he is paid well to care.

Chopper Cullen cares for Runner Cullen cos she and her colleagues, amateur and pro, keep him in his Merc. Or in his helicopter. Mind you, that is not always what it is cracked up to be, is it?
