Why are England so bloody awful at team sports?

As I write this I've just been looking at the highly amusing spectacle of England's cricket team being bowled out for 51 by the West Indies.

Earlier on I watched a woeful performance by the England rugby team - they had to depend on one of the worst managerial calls ever in international rugby when Nick Mallet let a wing forward play at scrum half for the whole of the first half.

They virtually always under perform at soccer.

Now this is a country with a considerable population, & loads & loads of money to pump into sport. They've invented most popular team sports.

How the Hell can they be this bad?

Regardless of my own personal views, objectively one could make a case that they don't seem to be doing too badly under Capello in football. In rugby they reached the last two World Cup finals, winning one. Not too shabby.

I used to despise Cricket but the moment I realised that the bowler wasn't trying to hit the wicket every time I became curious. Before long I began to understand offensive and defensive fields, the subtlety of changes at the slips and the enthralling chess match between openers and the new ball and now I love it. And just in case anyone wants to question my sanity, how could a sport in which England is so regularly humiliated be anything other than quality? To convince some people however, would be like trying to explain the importance of a good defensive stroke to a woman.

I don't think that physically they are the best specimens - I think the Celts are more naturally athletic! Thats why the Irish and Welsh can compete.

They also lack the flair of the Celts!

The Batsman's Holding, the Bowler's Willey, I'll boycott your suggestion.
