Replace national anthem with what?

I personally like our national anthem and I sing it with pride. I also would prefere pur anthem to be in Irish. However it is really unpractical. The majority of our nation dont know it and it is embarrassing in front of foreigners. Also if we want a united Ireland, it would have to be in English.

So change it to what?

Fields of athenry(cant spell)? Everyone knows, but it might be too republican.

Dearg doom? Bloody great powerful tune but a little too violent. For the new Ireland it should be more peaceful and happy.

Dirty Old Town? Makes us look like we're old dingey country, but maybe it will help boost our romantic feelings of Ireland.

Irish wild rover? I think is the winner.

The Minstrel Boy

YouTube - Minstrel Boy

The Minstrel Boy to the war is gone
In the ranks of death you will find him;
His father's sword he hath girded on,
And his wild harp slung behind him;"
Land of Song!" said the warrior bard,
"Tho' all the world betrays thee,
One sword, at least, thy rights shall guard,
One faithful harp shall praise thee!"

The Minstrel fell! But the foeman's chain
Could not bring that proud soul under;
The harp he lov'd ne'er spoke again,
For he tore its chords asunder;
And said "No chains shall sully thee,
Thou soul of love and brav'ry!
Thy songs were made for the pure and free,
They shall never sound in slavery!"

The Minstrel Boy will return we pray
When we hear the news we all will cheer it,
The minstrel boy will return one day,
Torn perhaps in body, not in spirit.
Then may he play on his harp in peace,
In a world such as Heaven intended,
For all the bitterness of man must cease,
And ev'ry battle must be ended.

What about the new Irish? There should be a verse in Polish, and maybe a chorus in Chinese. But you're right, definitely get rid of the Irish language element.

Ireland's call or the Frog Chorus ?

Win or lose, sink or swim (very apt right now!)
One thing is certain, we'll never give in
Side by side, hand in hand
We all stand together

Play the game, fight the fight
But what's the point on a beautiful night
Arm in arm, hand in hand
We all stand together

La la la la la la la la
Keeping us warm in the night
La la la la la la la la la la la
Walk in the light
You'll get it right

Like most national anthems it's a lot of overly emotional nonsense

I personally like "Danny Boy". Who cares if it originated in Northern Ireland?

Absolutely no reason to change OUR National Anthem.

Why the hell should we change our anthem? And what is wrong with it being in our national tongue. Bad enough that we play that Irelands call sh@te befvore the rugger matches but at least we wipe its memory away somewhat with a decent rendition of the real anthem.

Jesus, when I think of sunny July days in Thurles or a thronged croker in Sept, I see no reason to change.

Are we determined to fully convert every inch of this country to replicate a foreign high street with no tradition?
