It's amazing how freely dopey pseudo Republicans hurl the term "West-Brit" around.

In its most common use, "West-Brit" is actually a compliment.

It means someone who:

1) Doesn't have a chip on their shoulder or an inferiority complex when it comes to our relationship with Britain. Someone who thought Ireland vs England in Croke Park without booing of God Save the Queen was magnificent because it was two sovereign nations meeting as equals in a great stadium built by an Irish amateur organisation.

In other words anyone who disagrees with the poster has a "chip on their shoulder", a swift verbal denunciation which deals with those who verbally defend the state against west britonism.

Accuse them of being the problem thus denying your own national self loathing and post colonial angst....

2) Reads the only real newspaper in Ireland, AKA The Irish Times

This is so pathetic it beggars belief.

In other words does not speak with an "Irish" accent which is so shameful it must be abandoned for fear of causing offence to our former colonial masters who might regard it as a subject of ridicule. We should aim to speak like them because it makes us a more mature nation etc etc
