Speak fer yerself cYp, I do not think the US way is at all attractive.
I think that language, music and poetry is an important cultural expression
for us , whereas it is vaunted in the UK and in America becomes a commodity.

(of course FF measures Artistry in offload-thus Cecilia Ahern)

    I know how to curtsy

It was part of my weird education. The US/Brits have no music . They commidify
Art into Cultural Expression- I much prefer European Diversity myself.

Steve Reich, John Adams , Aaron Copland, Pete Seeger ?

Purcell, Britten, Ewan McColl, Steve Martland ?

None of the above could be called "commodified"

    They are Rare.

I speak of the type of cultural expression that emanates from these two
cultures to ours via TV ( I cannot watch it anymore). I am talking of
poetry and music. There is a lack there- at least there has been during
the last utilitarian eight years of Puritanism and Language Bastardy.

You might add to that Political Subversion and Mass-media Propaganda.
If that is what an Irish political class aspires to, then I would split in
a minute to Europe. (not the EU, which seems to have a language disfunction
    problem too).

We have nicer pubs. And Irish music. And nicer food. And the place looks more like Russia than the UK does. Oh and we don't do Royalty. And the UK is more multi-cultural and cosmopolitan. After that there isn't a huge difference.
Ireland interests are best secured within a more dynamic EU. Vote YES to Lisbon.

Lennon and McCartney wrote some lovely music as did Paul Simon. But you could not compare them to a Bach, Strauss, Verdi or Puccini.
