    Tonights match

Anyone watch the 1-0 win over Cyprus? Good first five minutes....then they scored and sat back for the remaining 85. Kevin Kilbane was allowed to shame Ireland yet again by being allowed to put on the shirt

And the poor auld Six Counties lost 3-2 to the Welsh...ahh well at least auld Trefor will be happy :P 8)

To end on a good note - if the Swiss and Frogs draw and Ireland beat the Swiss, Ireland will go through automatically. They'll also go through automatically if the Swiss beat France and Ireland beat the Swiss

I find it difficult to get excited about the stodgy style of play the team has engaged in under Kerr. All this 'we just need to hang on', 'if we can get an early goal and defend' and similarly unconfident and somewhat self-defeating ways of playing. We lack the killer instinct needed to penetrate, and this attitude and style of play is not going to get us too far. I have the impression that our team is capable of much better, under the right leadership and with the right inspiration.

It's worth noting that one of Ireland's premier soccer discussion sites (www.foot.ie) has banned all "un-PC" references to other nationalities.
Apparently it is inappropriate to refer to those from Switzerland as "chocolate munchers". In addition, the French are not be referred to as frogs.

And people think that this site is overrun by PC fanatics...

No, Ireland are guaranteed a playoff place if they beat switzerland which I dont have great confidence in given that Cyprus are a better team than us apparently

Ireland are the absolute pits. I was willing Cyprus to score by the end of last nights game. Brian Kerr's reign so far has seen a continual decline in performance. Ireland did OK in the last WC without Keano maybe he should have been left retired since he's hardly one for the future anyway and is so injury prone.

I'm not sure who this new fella is. He must be some kind of anti-Irish immigrant.

Are the French actually offended if someone calls them Frogs?

Personally I couldn't care less if someone called me a Paddy or anything like that. Just a bit of banter 8)
