Anyone able to enlighten me about the legality of cutting turf----heard there was an EU directive that banned the practice.

They are cracking down on cutting raised bogs but not blanket bogs. Compensation is paid on a once off basis @ circa €3500
Usually they mechanism is to designate the bogs as SAC s first

a lot of houses have a thing called Tubbery rights (if that how you spell it.).So they might make a few Euro compo.
A champion of the people emerges with the age-old and appealing promise of "something for nothing" - to be financed through every-increasing taxes. Supply and demand are thrown out of gear - the overhead goes up; the effective use of human energy goes down; the standard of living is lowered because money cannot buy wealth that is not produced.

You will have to show title to make a claim
We could organise a Politics.ie Scheme which would net us all about €2000 each net
Find a few hundred acres of raised bog.
Lease from farmer
Grant sub leases to Scheme members
Apply for for the compo and split 2000/ 1000/500 for Pemenbers/ bogowner/ mairteenpak
About 500 to a thousand plots ought to do us
How many PE members would join
Afterwards we might do a PE housing cooperative
