Taxes on Alcohol,Tobacco,bad anough,but the there is rumours of a tax on unhealthy food.People should be given freedom.There are many more examples which I will not go into.

Hm. If someone chooses to eat junk food, and has their health care paid by the state, then their decision costs the state money. Is the state not entitled to recoup that by taxing the decision?Originally Posted by fionn_socialist-Edward

There is also the issue of alcohol enforcement,raise the legal age to 21?why,the current one is already ignored,isnt one of the main problems that there is so many underage drinkers?
And if people are nt going to buy it in Supermarkets and garages they ll buy it somewhere else,just at a raised price.That is not fair on the consumer.

to reduce overall demand....personally, i wouldn't mind it if offsetting measures to reduce the cost of healthy food were introduced....maybe a small tax credit for gym membership too....Originally Posted by fionn_socialist-Edward

I take the veiw of the liberal Democrats of the UK on this particular issue of personal freedom.
It has not really become a mainstream political issue yet in the republic.
