Marriage existed for millenia before it was hijacked by religions as a means of control and making money. It'll be around a long time after the sky fairies have flown away.

On the other hand I don't see why there should be a tax credit for marriage unless they need the money to raise children. Especially considering that two people can pool resources to pay bills.

On second thoughts I guess a justification could be made for older people without children to raise getting the tax credit in case they need it for nursing home charges, or to pay for health problems that come with old age.

Bound to happen at some point, but the caller was publicising its possibility. I'm not sure about the veracity of it, but it doesn't matter, it is allowed.

Wording of the referendum ( there are caveats around family members though)

“Marriage may be contracted in accordance with law by two persons without distinction as to their sex.”

To show that the State, by abandoning the requirement that only one man can marry one woman, promotes and encourage sterile sham "marriages"?

Yes. For example Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry VII of England, was married the fourth time to Lord Stanley, but on the condition they didn't sleep together. Was a purely political marriage.

Yeah, but the state at that time paid no recognition to such "marriages".

In fact the state paid no recognition to any marriages at that time

While that in itself is not an unusual development, the story is made more interesting by the fact neither man is gay.

This whole thing just becomes more Bizarre as time goes by....

Surely the Registry Office does not have to sanction this?
