    Well done, GAA. Respect.

The GAA is different from soccer and rugby in that it has sources of revenue that the international codes don't.

The primary source is the fact that there isn't a market for the services of GAA players in any country other than Ireland, so the GAA doesn't have to pay its players (unless its with taxpayers money).

Furthermore, this deal would have been illegal, further to the regulations that prevented the FAI doing an exclusive deal with SKY, so it wouldn't have been to difficult for them to demure.
The only way to change the world is to win elections.

Australia seems quite keen on them

A deal with Setanta would not have been illegal.

We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when creating them

Setanta offered them €40m for exclusive rights. The said no and took an alternative deal. For balance, can we have the combined figure for the 4 tv stations showing various championship games in the deals they accepted?

It could be more, it could be less, but to say the GAA walked away from €40m is totally disengenious.

I will avoid pointing out that the first reaction of the Gah when they do anything is to always compare themselves to football, but that would distract the debate.
Sorry but "football" in this country means Gaelic Football!

(And that's GAA, not "Gah" you ignorant oik).

Fair play to the Gaelic Athletic Association! (When is the FAI renewing their deal with Rupert Murdoch. For shame )

oh ************************ off zyklon. football is football is football on every inch of the globe. What does the F stand for?
And the FAI's renewal of their deal with Sky is due to the simple demand for people outisde Ireland and all over the world to see our matches.
We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.

Do they play football or soccer in America?

It would for the finals. You cant PPV everything, so in fact the GAA wouldn't have been able to take the €40m even if they wanted to.

Facts are a pain in the arse sometimes.... :P

    Exactly. Different associations, different requirements.

Sky have no interest in the Gah sports, so didn't bid.
