The Archdiocese of Dublin has approved a new school enrolment policy, which will see schools for the first time setting aside a quota of places for non-Catholic pupils. This is a very, very small step in the right direction. It keeps two thirds of junior infant places for Catholics, but makes the rest available to non-Catholics.
Of course, "The Archdiocese of Dublin" should have nothing to do with the education of children in this state, and neither should any other religion, in my opinion.
Segregating four and five year old children, who obviously are not mentally competent enough to hold a religious opinion, by the religious views of their parents is utterly nonsensical and anti-social.
At least the archdiocese are beginning to concede the anti-community, anti-social nature of their traditional enrolment policies.
