Yes. Read the thread. No-one is suggesting "tearing down the education system".

In a Utopian society, a school should be an extension of the family and community that it is catering for. Therefore a Catholic school would obviously cater for the Catholic community, containing Catholic families. The same with Protestant, Muslim etc...

I suppose we were "lucky" in the North in the sense that there really only 2 Communities existed. Therefore each community served and catered for their "own."

The North has, only recently due to the cessation of violence, experienced an influx of immigrants. Obviously schools would have to take this into account and provide the appropriate facilities, but the immigrant children should abide to the ETHOS of Catholic schools. Certainly the vast majority of immigrants in my hometown are Polish therefore are Catholic.

However if society is as fragmented as that in London, then that should be taken into account. Thus in London there are:

    Community schools
    State schools
    Faith Schools.

The whole point of this debate is based on what happened recently in Balbriggin.

The was RIGHT in not changing the Policy.

However, the State took the right steps in establishing another school in the area due to immigrant demand.

Another simple solution would be to reduce the number of immigrants into the country...

We are widely recognised to have one of the finest educational systems is Europe.

The educational system in the UK is a joke.

But we have to tear down our system & replace it with something similar to the UK ?

Am I missing something here ?
Teaching in London has made me appreciate and realize that the Irish system is FAR more superior to that in the UK! The UK is ranked 47th, Ireland 5th in the world. I am also stating that the North's education (even though it is still part of the UK) is again much more superior than the mainland.

I never said that! But let me give you an example:

Whenever you immigrate to Australia, you obviously have to pass the Immigration Test & points system. You are automatically awarded 10points for being able to speak English! Whats wrong with that?

Australia wants to control and maintain immigration from non European countries, whilst ensuring European (preferably English speaking = indirectly Caucasian) immigrants increase.

A country should be able to dictate the amount of people crossing its borders. A country should do all it can in protecting its identity, character and indigenous people.

Again, I am speaking from experience. living in London has made realise that "native" British have less rights than the immigrants. They are placing such a HUGE burden on public services (education, housing, jobs etc). I am responsible for a Year Group in a Secondary school and I HAVE to take immigrant children at the expense of local children! Simply because they "worth more" to the school. However they:

    1) May not be entered for exams (GCSE's)
    2) May be removed from mainstream lessons
    3) Cause schools to divert money from much needed departments
    4) May leave school without qualifications!
    5) Mostly REFUSE to respect the NATIVE culture / language of the school & British children.

We are NOT allowed to celebrate Easter, Christmas etc as it may "upset" the immigrants! Technically, as I am Irish therefore an ethnic minority, I can celebrate these!!

In other words, I would HATE if this happened in Ireland as we have such a proud, rich and strong culture.

Don't dilute it or sacrifice it for the sake of non Irish...

This would certainly rectify the reason why we're having this debate in the first place...
