State and State sponsored Bodies - Financial Black Hole?

How many State and state sponsored bodies are there ?

So I looked it up , and I could find 300 or so.
But.....anecdotally, it's twice that. I have heard there are up to 600.

So .. Let's say its 450. That's an awful lot of Chief Executives.

Are these bodies being efficient with taxpayers money?

Don't know myself but surely some of these should share th e same board or comittiee or whatever
