    Joe Dolan has died: RTE

According to the radio news he is 'critical' in the Mater Hospital. He was known to be not well and cancelled his Christmas shows. He was taken to the Mater from his Foxrock home last night.

I heard he had leukemia. That wouldn't make him critical though. They can treat that these days can't they? Mind you, there's been rumours about his health for the last year or so. I'm not a big fan but I hope he gets well.

A great entertainer and the only showband singer to have hits outside of Ireland. Hopefully its a speedy recovery.

RTE is now saying the same.

We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.

That's very sad to hear. Joe Dolan was known for the kindness he showed to his many fans - stories of which will no doubt be heard in the next few days, and rightly so.

    May he Rest In Peace.
