Current FAI is not capable of leading Irish soccer

On the cards for ages that Stan was on the way out and we hardly even have a committee of blame... sorry committee of three to select a new manager.

The Sasanach on the other hand have a world class guy in charge with Mc Claren's seat still warm.

Now I know we don't have the money they have etc etc yada yada... don't even start!!

However, its more about attitude than money. If that womble looking ferrit of a secretary of the FAI had a pair he would step up and go after a top class manager for what we could afford?

Instead he hides behind a committee (which he is already disowning) to select an acceptable "ah sure he'll do and he won't cause too much trouble or ask too many questions" type 2nd rate chomp! Worse still the FAI in general are happy with him with nobody eager to move him on

I ask you is this typical of the Irish attitude? I am inclined to think that it is as you can see this attitude (i.e. keep your head down and don't cause a fuss) everywhere in sport business and politics.

Therefore i say that John Delaney is a national hero and should be nominated for the Aras next time round. I joke you not.

    Any thoughts?
It's a long road so play the long game!

People say the Irish have an inferiority complex. At the "highest levels" i.e successive governments and organisations such as the FAI this is true.

Unfortunately, my thinking about the FAI at this moment is exactly like the FAI's.

    Completely blank.

Fabio Capello was also appointed by Committee, and even the senior players were consulted. The FAI have revolutionised youth development in this country, and have taken over the Eircom League to try and steady that ship - in the face of major problems eg the proposed wage cap and who knows how that will work out. Again and again and again, ignorant pseudo Irish soccer fans slag off the FAI because the be all and end all of Irish soccer, to them, is the senior international side. This is a blinkered view. Only 11 out of the hundreds of thousands of Irish footballers can play for the senior side at any one time.

They screwed up on Stan, but y'know sometimes sh1t happens - look at England. The FA were lambasted over Eriksson, and practically forced into getting an English Manager. They went for the best available option, and it backfired spectacularly. At the end of the Staunton era, two things must be remembered. Bobby Robson was unavailable for the majority of the campaign, and we finished 1 place higher than our seeding. A simplistic analysis which hides the embarrassing performances, but they are the facts.
We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.
