'Why the British are so bloody awful at sport'

Is Piers Morgan the only Englishman ever to face the truth?

    Link

The extent of his misery is evident in this excerpt from the article above:

But Wednesday's match was perhaps the perfect template of an English sporting disaster: There was the obligatory act of unprecedented buffoonery from a total imbecile - step forward goalkeeper Scott Carson, whose dim-witted, wide-eyed, rabbit-in-headlight features screamed 'accident waiting to happen' from the kick-off.

His cock-up which enabled Croatia to take an early lead was so absurd that if one of my three sons had done it in a school match then I would have stormed the field of play, removed him firmly by the ear, and sent him to bed with no tea for bringing shame on himself, me, his school and his country.

Will that happen to young Carson? Of course not. Far more likely is that he will pop up next week in a pizza advert, grinning all the way to the bank like the village idiot he is.

I think the English soccer team are arrogant and have a much inflated sense of their own ability. I admire their rugby team though. If only Ireland had shown as much spirit in the RWC.

Ye haven't won too many wars in recent times.

Btw, I wouldn't agree with the title of the thread. I would say they're underachievers.

Spot on Charles, old boy. Inventing thinks like the dodgy dossier and winning wars like Irag and Afghanistan. Oh wait a minute...

In fairness we're hardly the nation to be laying down the law on crapness at sport...
We are all born mad. Some remain so.

And I, Antonius Block, am playing chess with Death!

And we're not in any position to giggle. Our record is equally as appalling. There will be well over a hundred gold medals handed out at the Olympics and is there anyone who believes we'll get one? We tried doping the athlete and got caught. Then the horse, and got caught too. Not much left.
