Tourism Ireland to promote Ulster Scots culture.

Tourism Ireland is to feature Ulster Scots traditions in its ads and promotions for the first time.

Tourism Ireland runs extensive advertising campaigns around the world showing images of the island, north and south.

Unionist politicians have criticised the ads, saying that they do not reflect unionist culture

I dont see why Unionists have to get angry about this, not all unionists view the Orange Order and bonfires as their culture and they do identify with the Ulster Scots traditions and culture which in my opinion is an interesting non offensive legitimate culture.

Certain parades will feature in the promotions but its doubtful that bonfires will.

I think Ulster Scots culture has been buried beneath loyalism and i see only benefits from having this kind of culture being promoted in the north by Tourism Ireland.

    You won't need them
We should be shaping an Ireland based on full respect for the human and civil rights of all our people, an Ireland of which Larkin and Connolly would be very proud.

Its not the "language" theyre promoting, i believe it will be more kilts and bagpipes.

I suppose we should be exploring ways to redefine our cultures and express them

I always thought promoting the concept of 2 irelands was stupid.Did you see the programme on BBC1 last night. It was called Britains last areas of wilderness, or something like that. Where were they? In the Sperrin region of Tyrone.Have to say it annoyed me just because it was such a beautiful place but they had the nerve to imply it was in Britain by the title of the programme when it was part of our scenic isle.

Sorry strayed of topic. The Ulster-Scots language seems to be quite bogus and is an attempt by some unionists to prsent themselves as non-Irish.Although there may be some form of legtimate dialect that is called Ulster-Scots.
