    Perhaps Fernado Cavenaghi has Irish roots as well?????

    Exactly. YOU claimed putting your family first is a criteria for being Irish, then reject it when pointed out that the so called 'passport tourists' do exactly that. All white Americans who claim to be Irish get a passport, but the Chineseman who has been in Dublin for 50 years, employed, pays taxes and is married with kids cannot.

    I think that your entire premise is inerently racist.
    How many Chinese have lived in Ireland for 50 years? The longest the chinese community in Belfast have only been there is the late 60's, and it is the exact same here in Dublin.

    De Valera had an Irish Mother and mixed Spanish ancestry from his father, so his ancestrally that would make him on the subject of Identity more Irish than anything else... You were missing the point about priorities, I said being Irish means putting the interests of your family's and friends before your own individual ambitions/wishes.

    Jus Sanguinis is alot more practical and logical than.... because you at least by nature and by descent connect more with the people whom you were raised amongst.

    Jus Soli is fake and deceitful... It is only practical in places like Australasia and North America because nations like the US/CAN/AUS/NZ were countries founded for immigrants and by immigrants.

    White Americans are American only because they were born in the United States; but by the definition of Jus Sanguinis they are europeans ancestrally and culturally. The real Americans are the Tribes whom now live in Reservations... because shamefully people like us and other europeans put them there after we stole their lands!

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    So granting preferable citizenship to people whom actually relate to a countries people is racist then?

    So that means: Greece, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Croatia etc any country that have sensible ancestral rights return laws are the work of Nazis then?

    That means then that you are insulting every european/Asian country in the world..... even the people in the 90's whom donated IR£1 Million into the country back in the 90's in return for an Irish Passport

    I say yes, expanding citizenship to Irish descendents only helps Ireland gain international prestige, power, influence, and of course, investment into the Irish economy.

    There is a myriad of good and logical reasons to extend it, and few and mostly irrational fears not to.

    Under current law, a 6th generation Italian can gain Italian citizenship, and have more of a right to live and work in Ireland, than a 100% Irish 3rd generation descendent.

    Does that make sense to any of you?

    Because it doesn't make sense to me.

    More's the pity, it would seem.
