The OO have never attempted or asked to march down the Falls Road. So if Sync had been born on the Falls Road, then he could happily ignore the OO. That is unless he wished to travel to some other area for the purpose of being offended.

Unfortunately it doesn't end there, does it? These 'celebrations' are expressions of ignorance and hatred. We can ignore them and reap the consequences or we can say that such things are not acceptable in our society.

It's not the degree of offence caused that matters - it's the degree of wishing to cause offence, which is indicative of the underlying hatred.

Burning Irish flags needs to be classed as incitment to hatred. We need to be treating the sectarian hate in NI the same way as hate against Muslims or Jews isn't tollerated in England.

They burn the Irish flag because they are unhappy and uncertain over their own identity. Maybe they believe that eventually, if they burn enough tri-colours they will reach the point of critical mass, and actually be British, as opposed to just Britains foreign subjects.

Oddly though their 'anti-all things Irish' streak is what sets them apart, not from the Irish, but the mainland British. Sad really.

The Irish government should lodge a formal protest over the blatant disregard for our national flag. Imagine if union flags were burnt across the Republic during St. Patrick's Day. Disgusting behaviour from the dregs of society.
