    irish film industry saved!!!

a journo friend of mine got this this morning from a PR company.. this is hilarious.. the only one i have ever heard of is Susan Fitzgerald!!

Amy Huberman Leads All-Star Irish Cast in Satellites and Meteorites

Adam Fergus, Geoff Minogue, Joanne Crawford, Susan Fitzgerald, Sara James
and John Lynn complete the line-up for Rick Larkin’s brave independent film.

i-Wire Films and Warrior Films have confirmed the all-star Irish line-up for their independent co-production, Satellites & Meteorites.

The filming of Satellites & Meteorites – the story of two car accident victims and the strange events that take place as they lie unconscious in the hospital – began on July 23rd and the film will be released early in 2008.

Amy Huberman (The Clinic, Shattered) plays the female lead Lucinda, an American satellite engineer. Adam Fergus (Trouble in Paradise, Inside I’m Dancing) plays Daniel, the male lead. The supporting cast reads like a who’s who of the Irish film industry with Geoff Minogue (Once and The Tudors); Joanne Crawford (Pure Mule); Susan Fitzgerald (The Trouble With Sex, Bachelors Walk); Sara James (In America, Boy Eats Girl); and John Lynn (Nice Guys Finish Last).

The film is helmed by prolific indie director Rick Larkin, (Shattered, Triple Bill) and produced by Dave Leahy, recent recipient of the Filmbase/RTE short film prize and producer of The Formorian and Tufty. Longtime Larkin collaborator JJ Rolfe is shooting the film on super 16mm and the project is being funded through an investment vehicle based in the UK.

“Satellites & Meteorites is going to be a visual treat,” said Rick Larkin. “Most of the effects, the meteorites, the satellites, are being done in-camera, we’re not using computers for it.”

“Once I read Larkin’s script I simply couldn’t turn it down,” said Dave Leahy, producer. “It’s going to blow you away; it’s just totally original and beautiful.”

The financing of the film is a story in itself. True to their indie roots, the filmmakers turned down offers of additional finance from an American company.

“They wanted it to star Mischa Barton and to set it in the States. We discussed it and Rick said that he didn’t want to ruin the film so we turned the money down” said Leahy. “Fortunately we found other investors, who believe in our approach.”

Could they not have compromised and got Mischa over here for a few months? Damnable artistic integrity

Seriously though good to see what looks like an ambitious irish movie project set in our own times rather than another historical drama, welcome though they occasionally are.
