Time to strip South Africa of the World Cup 2010

It was reported yesterday in the Irish Times that 19,000 people were murdered in that country last year. The same arcticle also reported that other headline crimes such as car-jackings were also on te rise. It is a country where police corruption and incompetance is so bad most whites and Afrikaaners find themselves in a laager or security village.
Given the pandemic levels of crime and the infrastructure defecit the question must now be asked:Is it wise or even safe to hold the World Cup in South Africa?
Liquidate labour, liquidate stocks, liquidate the farmers, liquidate real estate.

How many people were murdered in the United States in the year of any of their Olympics or World Cups?

FIFA have already stated that they believe the stadia and infrastructure will be ready on time. They have also already said that they have other countries on standby (USA and England) if that is required. It's all under control.

FIFA seem to be pushing ahead with the current hosts. Security levels will be pumped up during the Cup. Tourists and visitors will probably be herded together in "safe" areas.
I don't see any huge problem likely to occur during the running of it. Most of those murders tend to be gang related.
They have enough time to get the infrastructure good enough for the amount of tourism expected to be generated. The numbers attending might well be the lowest for some time.

If it does get dropped i hear England is lined up as its emergency replacement. Is this true?

I was at the WC in Germany in 2006. It was one of the best trips I've ever been on and I didn't even have any match tickets.

Have to say that the thought of going to South Africa for a WC has no appeal, primarily because of the security environment. Hope FIFA pull it and put it somewhere more civilized (and closer to home).
The only way to change the world is to win elections.

At least I wont have to remortgage the house to go to it!!!
Consider it rude, the support of economic sovereignty for which your German masters have no say.

And where are the murders in the US compared to the murders in SA?

See we can play this one all day. The fact is that they held two olympics and a world cup in a place that tops the table for murder worldwide. They even had a terrorist attack during the Atlanta Olympics, something unlikely to occur in SA.
People aren't in any danger going to the SA world cup because they won't be staying in townships where the murders occur. Anymore than people were at risk at the LA Olympics, since they generally weren't staying in Compton.

In 1996 when the Atlanta held the Olympis the population was around 250,000,000. There were 19,650 murders that year. The current SA population is around 50,000,000.

No comparison between the two countries. SA has some pretty serious problems

Your right most murders happened through gang violence/domestic incidents in both South Africa and the States well away from where the wealthier party.
There will be no major problem for fans in South Africa as there was none in the States although i will say the States are generally safer than South Africa.
The biggest threat in South Africa will probably be English fans!
