true day time is generally sh1te regardless of channel, difference is that TV3 is sh1te at anytime, least in this man's experience, then again i compare all channels against BBC1/2 so perhaps i'm setting the bar a bit high

You are indeed, but then again like a true West Brit Fine Gaeler at least you recognise the superior article when you see it.

I've noticed that since TV3 came on the scene and challenged RTE's sports coverage that the state channel has bucked up its ideas a bit with regard to the eircom League.

However, I was with some English mates having a few bevvies at home one evening earlier this year and I said 'Listen, lads, I want to flick on RTE and get the Irish football results.' So I put the radio on and the sports report dealt first with Gaelic games (fair enough, although it was only county team selection gossip about forthcoming weekend games and not any actual results on the day), then it went to the English Championship (not even Premiership) results of that evening (Roy Keane's Sunderland were one, I recall). The third sports item was something to do with Padraig Harrington and then, and only then, did we get the eircom League scores for that night !

My English mates were stunned (no exaggeration). 'You mean' sez they, 'the Irish station gives the ENGLISH football results first ?!'

Listen, I didn't know where to start.
Think you have the wrong end of the stick there, big time.... The Eircom League is shown on TG4 and Setanta - not RTE. RTE don't show it. The improvement in the product has come about primarily because of work within the League itself.

TV3's sports coverage is absolutely appalling - what do they show aside from having the rights to the national side's away games? - and recently that is tantamount to torturing your audience.

Giving RTE grief for providing the sports news that actually interests the most people (prime example being the recent focus on Sunderland) rather than upholding some sort of moral sporting pecking order smacks of the way the BBC in NI used to ignore GAA results.

Gimpanzee, I've watched a couple of this seaon's eircom League games on Friday night on RTEi on the Net (including the appalling 0-0 opening one from Dalymount between Bohs & Drogs).

drbob, apologies ... sometimes I can't resist. (I've been described as a West Brit myself, of course, by Shinners because I dared to vote SDLP when I lived in the North).

SV - I stand corrected - RTE are commited to showing a grand total of 10 eircom league games this season. TG4 and Setanta show a game each every week. However - my original point stands.
