    Given Peter Matthews rosary rattling and the clamour to save the Vatican embassy do we have a similar geographic area here? I would suspect south dublin would not classify itself as the Alabama of Ireland but then agian, who knows. My personla opinion is that there is a radical hotbed of conservatism running from north cork to limerick to Roscommon and across to Wicklow and all points in between, a kind of an bible beer belly...

    I'd imagine the west and north are more religious - As far as I recall Inishowen has the highest rate of religious observance in the Republic. It isn't analogous to the US Bible Belt at all, though.

    the map is quite interesting, Mississippi being the worst affected. I'm surprised that Wyoming is mostly atheist

    Ballymena is the closest to a Bible-Belt in either jurisdiction.

    If there was one, I'd say it stretches from Mayo, home of The Burke family to Antrim,home of Paisley, via Sligo Donegal, Leitrim, Fermanagh, Tyrone etc.

    That map is nonsense. The key makes no sense, while the idea that Idaho, which I know very well, has 'no religion' is laughable in the extreme.
