From Derry City to Tehran, A good news story

What with all the anti-Iranian feeling going on in some places lately, I decided that maybe it's time for some good news from at least one Irish man who's over there at the moment...

Top scorer in the league of Ireland last year, Derry City's Eamon Zayed, has caused a bit of a stir in the local Tehran derby game, played in front of 90,000 screaming soccer fans..

He signed at the end of the LOI season for Iranian club Persepolis, and came on as a sub with 30 minutes to go against arch rivals Esteghal.... his side were 2-0 down, and down to 10 men, with 5 minutes left to play.. when he sparked into life.. scoring a hat trick with goals in the 86th, 88th and 92nd minute.. to win by 3-2.. making him an instant hero in one half if the city..

    Well done Eamon..

Pity he declared for Libya last year, we could do with Eamon come June 2012! Well done Eamon, put us on the map.

Not good enough for the Irish team. I'm pretty sure I'd score a hat-trick in the Iranian league.

I suppose so, but we've had worse don the green, pointing no elbows, Gary Doherty (striker?)!

While we've probably had worse, our striking option in those days were abysmal compared to now. There's no way that a player like Conor Sammon who's on the fringes of a poor Premiership team wouldn't have been in the squad 6 or 7 years ago.

Well he is getting €300,000 to play for 6 months, why aren't you banging them in in Iran?
