When did you last see a Nun?

I just caught the very end of 'The Nun Story' this afternoon. I love that movie. I'm a massive Audrey Hepburn fan.

I hopped off the sofa, and asked my EVMSU, when was the last time she saw a Nun. She said she saw one in town (Dublin City ) last year.

My Gran Aunt was a Nun, she died in 1990 or something. I've seen home video footage since of her in the olden days. She was a Sister in the convent in Rathmines I think. Back in the olden days ('50s) they had rules about leaving the gaff.

I haven't seen a proper Nun in yonks. Are they finished ?

Where's all the nuns gone ?

National Geographic said in an article that there are only 27 breeding pairs left in the country!

They are still around, but since they wear ordinary clothes, one cannot tell that it's a nun.

I'm presume they are all getting along just fine.

After all don't they have the convent bell to ring when they need anything.

I think places such as the Poor Clares in Galway are doing okay in garnering a small number of recruits. That's a deliberate choice for a lifestyle that could be hard to pursue elsewhere. Nuns can still be a notable presence at funerals, but there must be quite a few old and frail who don't go out much. In some places on the continent, their numbers seem to be replenished by young women coming from other parts of the world.

I'm sure I've seen a nun in the past few weeks.

Last time I was in Cork a few weeks ago, I was chatting to two in my mum's care home, plus a nun in her 20s whose sister I know.

They're probably all praying for your salvation EVM, I don't know what you need saving from, but they probably do.

There is a bunch? of nuns in Galway who hang around on Nun's Island praying and whatever else they do, still.
