Just awful to be a woman in Ireland today?

Feminist whingefest from correspondent in today's Irish Examiner on how just how terrible it is to be a woman in Ireland today and how those nasty Irish "men" are discriminating against the female of the species. The BBC panda picture, of course, and David Cameron's views are all grist to the mill in pursuit of Irish society's 'orrible male chauvinism.

Also apparently there far too many male Irish media presenters - any aspiring envious female touting for a job, I wonder?

Brings to mind the title of a song "Its hard to be a woman" -sob, sniffle. Now where did I put that box of tissues?

12 years in the new millenium and women still don't get equal pay as men, This i agree is a disgrace. but feminists are needed like a hole in the head and the whole gender quota is a sexist BS and if it was the other way round feminist would be gong ape sh*t. One thing is clear there can't be one rule for one group and another rule for another group. An equal and fair society is what is needed. we got politicians fighting, not to make it fair and equal but to make them look good. kinda like Fr Ted hammering the dent out of the car, soonor or later it will be totally banjaxxed.

In a perfect world, I'd oppose positive discrimination quotas for gender, class, or race too. Unfortunately, without them the statistics would be even more damningly white, male, and middle-class

Massive grammatical error in the second damn line of that article, and she has the gall to complain about others get the gig ahead of her?

I also note she doesn't understand what "monochrome" actually means. A polar bear might be accused of being (almost) monochrome - but a panda? Eh?

And, bluntly, women are not "disproportionately the victims of violence". Actually, men are. Most assaults are on men, particularly young men. Most of those murdered are men. But, clearly, that doesn't count.

I also note that women, once selected to stand for the Dáil, have the same chances of being elected - 29% of female candidates were elected, compared to 29.1% of males candidates. It's also worth pointing out that the raw number of those chosen to stand is meaningless unless you know how many entered that selection candidacy first day.

And, further, if she'd ever actually read The Beauty Myth, she'd know that Wolf pointed out, 20 years ago, that men, too were coming under pressure to look good all the time and this would only increase (as it has).

So, to sum up; illiterate, innumerate, and quoting sources she clearly hasn't read. A truly terrible piece of writing, the failings of which undermine any point she might have hoped to make.

A striking compilation of dubious statistics and questionable conclusions.

Of course, the most baffling part, is how she lists countless female achievements as proof of women's exclusion from achievement, in a story about how women are overlooked in the media, in a newspaper.

    Fascinating.

Since most of those are union rates or self employed it's hardly possible for there to be differentials with them wouldn't you think?

Feminists have ruined it for us, unless you're very very well paid, trying to have a career, children, husband, social time is impossible, all I want to do and a lot of the girls working with me , is to give up work , stay home and raise the kids, and try and have some semblance of normality, instead of the stress of trying to get time off work, what to do on teacher training days, worried how to manage school holidays, and all that goes with children, while running a household with too tired parents. So fairly soon something is going to give and it will be my job, as no reduced hours/ job share is available.
