Get the church out of education - the mind revolts from being forced to accept twaddle and it causes an abiding sense of humiliation. The embarrassment is caused by people who are afraid they may speak the truth since the truth is so rarely spoken here.

I agree. It is written for educated into stupidity morons, who think they are someone in there own minds.

The author who described Irish people like that should be put on a no fly list by the irish government. Then we can sit and enjoy the craic about that one.

It sounds like those Irish candidates actually had some self-esteem left. The neccessity of whoring themselves off to capitalist firms will solve that quickly enough. Within six months, they will be spewing out the standard HR nonsence like an pro. Within a year, they won't even need a shower afterwards.

But I think a lot of it is physiological. A Italian's embarrassment doesn't manifest itself in red cheeks. An Irish person's embarrassment or lack of confidence is much more visually obvious. And then it feeds on itself. They become embarrassed about their embarrassment, etc.

Where are all these great Cork restaurants ? An Cruibín is closed, the Hardwood's closed. As for the rest... anyone doesn't think that the Irish aren't two (at least) faced bastards who're all plamás to your face and nasty behind your back is deluding themselves.
The Irish are not a serious people. Colm McCarthy to Miriam O'Callaghan.

Italian catholicism is not the cold, sadism of the Irish model. They have a model for sex, sensuality and the free expression of emotion. We don't. Raise your kids by cold sadists and you gonna have a lot of shame and blushing.

If Irish people had self esteem, they would not accept being governed by an array of publicans, teachers and solicitors with offices over the local butchers.
