Should a Red Light District be officially opened in Dublin to boost tourism?

What do people make of this idea?

De Wallen in the Amsterdam is a major tourist attraction. In 2009 4.6million tourists visited Amsterdam. This clearly shows that a potential RLD could offer a huge tourism benefit to Dublin, especially from stag/hen parties in the UK.

Dublin is already very popular among Britons for weekend breaks and piss-ups. Could we take advantage of that through a RLD?

Having a RLD could also serve to minimise crime as there would be stringent conditions on the quality of both drug caffes (reduce the illegal dealing of cannibas) and Prostitutes 'cleanliness'.

A very radical idea but one, perhaps which could do more good than harm?
I'll leave it up to the posters to discuss and decide.

A few Opium dens would add a nice touch of the Orient too.

Or legalise hard drugs and make Ireland the heroin capital of Europe?

A shooting-up weekend in Dublin anyone?

Would this not be akin to endorsing prostitution? When it is the polar opposite is what I stand for. I am opposed to your Red Light District in Dublin.

Sounds like heaven. We could sow Poppy fields down the country too - all the way down to 2 mile Borris that would be so pretty and financially rewarding.

There's already a running thread on prostitution.

And no, I don't think we should objectify and degrade women to boost tourist revenue. Only someone with screwed up ethics would.

    No.

Are you saying the 4.6 million visitors to Amsterdam are all sex tourists ?
