I thought you already had one; it's called Temple Bar.No, seriously, I don't think this one will get past those of a religious persuasion; and it's only been about 25 years since you were able to freely buy a packet of three in ROI. There are plenty enough good reasons for coming to Dublin: Paddy Cullen's, John Kavanagh's, Jack Birchall's to name but a few.

In my opinion prostitution should not be legalised because the women would be exploited and degraded.

In my opinion all drugs should be legal to adults. I have no problem with people making informed decisions and using drugs carefully. As long as they dont harm anyone else while they use them. This could potentially generate vast sums of gov revenue through taxation.

But it will not happen any time soon.

No idea. Do you? I never said I was in favour of this, just sparking debate but you want to derail this thread from the get-go. Good for you.

Again, only your conception of prostitution which limits it to women.

No. But a share do. I know countless lads who go off to Amsterdam every year. How many Amsterdam Lads come to Ireland for weekends?
I'd gamble that more Dutch visit Ireland as tourists than vice versa.. don't have the numbers for the Irish to Amsterdam but..

    From Tourism Ireland:

In 2008, we welcomed 162,000 Dutch visitors to our shores, representing revenue of €75/£51 million.
Tourism Ireland | Corporate Website | - Market Profile

How much do Irish "lads" spend per annum in Amsterdam and how much goes into the legitimate economy.. and not into the hands of dealers and pimp (who may or may not be trading legally)

Promoting Ireland as sex tourism destination is not a good plan, it's a very silly plan.

Seems like a very simplistic presentation of figures. Didn't we have far more tourists than this by the end of the boom? I believe we had circa 8 million in about 2008.

Yes, a RLD may bring a certain clientele that we never before had and it may also eliminate some that also do visit. I have noted before how the tourist argument gets produced in relation to this particular issue time and again, but it is always presented as though it is a net gain.

I was in Amsterdam a few years back. I had avoided the place because of its reputation, it had no appeal. Work brought me to the place. I won't be rushing back.

As a nation yes, not the capital which my figure for this thread was i.e. Amsterdam.

The last time I was in Amsterdam I only saw women in the windows.
And no I did not go in. I was just curious to see what this area of the city looked like.
I was under the impression we were making a comparison between how Dublin could be like Amsterdam.

And of course I would not like to see men exploited either.
