Prosletyising is how some churches get members, if they are not doing anyone any harm who are we to criticise them? In other words if something is not broke why fix it? I dont have an issue with any religion prosletyising if they are not going to incite hatred or cause trouble

The war will go on until the Brits have been driven from Ireland.

A few years ago some Jehovah's Witnesses arrived at the house and asked for a teenage family member by name. Where they got the name is unclear. They left on being told that the teenager was not at home. Undaunted they returned a couple more times before getting the message that their "target" would not be permitted to talk to them. Witnesses don't "incite hatred" or "cause trouble".......but they have in my view some extremely dangerous religious tenets.

This really has been quite a wide ranging thread!

Somehow [unlike the catholic church] it is now impermissable to criticize a protestant or a protestant church .

When I criticize protestantism I am criticizing universal protestantism and its continual rollover on many Christian teaching to the extent that the mainstream protestant churches have actually rejected and watered down many of Christs basic teachings.
I know I said I'd stay out of this but hey temptation was too great!

We non conformist Protestants are pretty big on back to basics Christianity, we use the bible as our source and stick to it. We are not wishy washy at all, some would argue we adhere too strongly to biblical principles. It is the Roman Catholic church that has added a whole bunch of stuff that is not in the bible and can be an obstacle to someone coming to faith by obscuring the central message of salvation.

Btw FM you're not a member of Opus Dei are you? I knew one a while back and he was as dogmatic, confrontational and dismissive of other people's views as you are.

The problemn with prosletysing is that it reduces what should be about a person's relationship with God and the Community in which they find that relationship to political propaganda. Also it usually involves distortions of other communities beliefs aswell as the cheapening of those of the prosletyizers.

The 'war' has ended. The last fragments will die with your generation and that's the best thing for all of Ireland really. It's sad to see so many people on p.ie whose present is spent fixating on the tragedies of the past to the detriment of the future.

I met one once and he never stopped talking about "grace". Never did find out who she was.
