Wicklow County Councillors in Supreme Court

Three Wicklow County Councillors are in the Supreme Court today. Pat Doran, Tommy Cullen and Nicky Kelly all face losing their seats and being landed with a huge legal bill if they lose. Doran and Cullen would be no loss to politics but Kelly is not the worst of them. Doran and Cullen are both Me Feiners but its up to the court to decide their political future today

Perhaps you should explain the background to this?
I forget the details but has it something to do with them challenging the County Manager to release public documents? Wasn't he also questioned recently by Gardaí about some other matter?
On another note, this is not the way to get rid of councillors or TDs. We need to be give recall elections.

Yeah it's a terrible OP but here you go: Judgement day for trio - News, frontpage - Wicklowpeople.ie

The challenge was in relation to a decision by the County Manager, Eddie Sheehy, to grant planning permission for the conversion of a milking parlour into a pet crematorium.
If you're the first out the door, that's not called panicking.

Nick Kelly would be no loss to politics. Most Wicklow people outside of Arkla wouldn't have anything to do with him and he will never be elected TD for this reason.

When the Councillors lost in the high court, costs had to be paid in seven days. They didn't pay and co manager wanted them removed for 5 yrs

Seems to be a lot of litigation by, against, and within Wicklow County Council.

Having litigation between County Manager and Councillors is unusual.
