ScienceDaily (July 14, 2010) — A new study from the University of Leicester Department of Economics reveals that highly educated people make wrong assumptions about their political leanings -- they are more likely to think they are left wing when they are more likely to be relatively conservative.

"The most startling result is that the more educated tend to believe that they are more left-wing than they are measured as being," said Dr Rockey. "That is, well-educated individuals are more likely to think that they are quite left-wing but actually believe things that compared to the rest of the population would make them comparatively right-wing.
"The analysis suggests that the cause of this is different to the effect of gender, income, or job type. Other results suggest that men and those with higher-incomes are more likely to both think that they are rightwing and to be measured as such."

I HATE well-to-do, successful, professional types, who love wining and dining and going on posh holidays and wearing fine threads and drive big f**k-off cars, and who then turn around and say things like, "Y'know, Oim quite left wing myself achtually," or, "I absolutely adore Fintan O'Toole, he's, loike, so uncompromising," or "Isn't the plight of asylum seekers absolutely appalling? What must the Scandinavians think?" some such Guardian-reader toss.

You're NOT left wing, you're a right wing, capitalist pig who is leeching off the blood, snot and tears of the proletariat, and who by sending your kids to Clongowes and Mount Anville and the Institute are doing your very best to ensure that your exalted status in life will persist down the generations, to the exclusion of just about everyone else but your in-bred friends. So please be honest with yourself, pour a big brandy, light a fat cigar and revel in your wealth and good fortune. An obnoxiously rich person is one thing. A sanctimonious, hand-ringing, faux-socialist is MUCH worse.
